Roberts Liardon wears many hats, including author, public speaker, spiritual leader, friend, church historian and agent for justice and societal change. Roberts Liardon was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Valentine’s Day. As the first male child born at Oral Roberts University—a large charismatic Christian college in the Midwest—his mother named him in honor of the university founder, Oral Roberts. In the intervening years, Roberts Liardon became one of the most recognized and sought after Christian authors and orators of the 20th century, selling over 6,000,000 books worldwide in over 50 languages. As the 21st century continues dawning, Roberts has been seeking God and making new friends around the world. He sees new challenges, paradigm shifts, and fresh direction in his life and in the global community at large. Roberts warmly welcomes you to share this journey of discovery with him.
From An Early Age
Roberts Liardon got started in his vocation early in life, giving his first public address at his grandparents’ church in North Carolina at the age of thirteen. Not too long after, he began a lifelong love of words. Roberts Liardon has written over 45 spiritual and self-help books, the first one seeing print in these early days, when he was only seventeen. This book, I Saw Heaven, was about an amazing visionary experience he had. The foundation of this divine encounter has informed his life ever since. By the time he was eighteen, spiritual communities and organizations from around the world were inviting him to share his life and message. His passion and burden catapulted Roberts into the public eye, which has proved to be a respectable burden of great responsibility.
Looking Back
After several years of experience sharing God’s love and hope, Roberts Liardon began to realize the value of spiritual pioneers of times past. His personal speaking and ministering life became highlighted with a new accent: researching and sharing about fascinating men and women from bygone eras. This has manifested in a church history lecture tour, the publication of rare spoken messages from Christian leaders from the past, and an acclaimed book and DVD series, God’s Generals, which has become one of the best-selling church history series of all time. Roberts Liardon is counted as one of today’s most popular church history communicators.
Growth and Change
Roberts Liardon has always found his center and confidence in the good news of Jesus Christ, but he’s always felt an acute discomfort when faced with the prospect of living life in a religious ghetto. Because of this, his life’s journey has taken him to over 100 nations around the world, seeing the image of God in each person he encounters. Equally at home with kings and religious leaders as with slum lords from the Philippines, Roberts enjoys his neighbors in California as much as having audience with former President Ronald Regan, former Prime Minister Lady Margaret Thatcher, and Billy Graham. Because of this versatility and willingness to spend time with “whosoever,” his notoriety has increased outside the boundaries of conventional Christendom.
In the early 1990s Roberts Liardon moved to Southern California and established his base of operations in Orange County. Here he founded a Christian center called Embassy, which would become a center for humanitarian work including assistance to the poor and needy in Southern California and throughout the world. Embassy has established, financed and sent over 250 men and women to nations around the world. These humanitarian missionary teams take food, clothing, and medical supplies with the message of Jesus to friends and neighbors worldwide.
Moving On
There are a lot of different things that people have called Roberts Liardon over the years: humanitarian, pastor, teacher, and philanthropist. Like anyone this visible, they have also called him other, less charitable things. Suspicion and slander are part and parcel of the high cost of following the crucified and risen Jesus, who still bears the scars of humanity’s suffering. When asked about his life thus far, Roberts responded,
We all go through stuff—sometimes its thrown at you, sometimes its self-induced, but you need to learn from these seasons without holding onto the emotional baggage. I’ve heard a saying, “a teabag is not worth anything unless its been through hot water,” and I think that’s absolutely true. God has been the most stable Person in my life through the good times and the hard times; He’s been the best friend I’ve ever had, always believing and giving His best to me.
We’re entering an exciting new era with our work around the world. Please take some time to explore the different areas of this website, and let us know if you’d like to work together with us.
Roberts Liardon call this an invasion of ambassadors, “Operation 500”. It is a strategic, invasive operations for the kingdom of God, with the mission to saturate the nations with the full gospel of Jesus Christ. The mission is defined; its actions are intentional and resolved. We have embraced the fact that the body of Christ is called to be an army. We are to act like one, talk like one, function like one—but our militancy is towards the blessing of mankind—the salvation of their souls, the healing of their bodies, the prosperity for their lives. Roberts Liardon believe that operation 500 is a progressive army of ambassadors, equipped with the divine combination of the Word and the Spirit.
Pastor Roberts Liardon sees it as divine strategy which was planned before the foundation of the earth. God issued the call, and voiced it through Jesus Christ as He commanded us in Mathew 28 saying, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. GO YE therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the World.” Verses 18-20
In addition, Roberts Liardon indicate that God had a specific plan, with a specific call, for a specific generation in a time such as this. And God has specific believers in mind—anyone called “ye”. You are probably reading this because you are one of those believers chosen to invade the hard nations of the earth.
The Call to begin Operation 500
Pastor Robert Liardon on How it all began….
In May of 1998 Robert Liardon was sitting in southern Florida, and as he prayed, God came into his hotel room. But to his great surprise God said, “I don’t like your Bible College.”
The two-year school, Spirit Life Bible College (SLBC) was six years old in 1998. It had been the emphasis of much hard work and focus, now fully accredited with a variety of instructors who were seasoned with ministry-life experience. We highlighted our unique combination of blending the Word and the Spirit in our classes, we graduated high quality people. Our school had been recommended throughout the world by the best of ministers and churches.
God continued, “I don’t like what your graduates are doing. “Roberts asked, “Well what are they doing?” Instantly He gave Pastor Roberts a quick vision on the inside of his spriit of what the majority of them were doing. Some of them had gone back to their home churches to work on staff. Some of them had gone into the ministry field as pastors, evangelists, and other areas of the five-fold. A few had gone into the nations. But most of them had gotten jobs and settled back into the church as workers and members. Roberts Liardon though all of that was okay and fine by his view.
After Robert Liardon saw this quick vision, the Lord continued, “I don’t like what they are doing. They have been trained for something more than that.” Roberts replied, “Well, when they come to Leadership Conference during Alumni Week, I’ll anoint them all and stir them up again. I’ll encourage them to get out there and do what they’re supposed to do.” “No you will not, “ God replied, “Well -- what do you want me to do?” Robert Liardon was puzzled. Robert Lairdon had full attention. Robert Lairdon knew that God was very serious. The God began to teach Robert Lairdon.
God said “I want to give you a characteristic of the new millennial Church. Throughout the 80s and 90s, most pastors described their churches by how many people they had as members or by how many attended their church services. “Now, churches will continue to grow. But those that begin to obey My emphasis for the new millennium will be to talk about this: For I am sending ‘sending power’ to the churches that are following Me in full pursuit. “They’ll talk about how many they ship—no how many they’ve kept in their chairs or pews. The cares of the new millennial Church will not be how many have left their churches for the mission field of the world—but how many have remained in the seats.
“The churches will continue to grow and the local church will be important, but ‘sending power’ I’m putting back into the Church, for it has not been there for many a decade. “It’s been in some churches, but for most it’s been a visitation and not residential. But I’m bringing it back as a residential anointing and operation of My churches that are following Me in full pursuit.” I saw it and I understood it. Then He continued, “And I’m going to give it to you and put it in your church.”
Roberts Liardon quickly received it and got all excited about it. God was going to put a new anointing in Roberts Liardon Ministry! Not just any anointing, not just a visitation - - but a residential anointing was coming to live in Robert Liardon church! This was great!
Then God said to Roberts Liardon, “I want you to send 500 of your graduates to the nations of the world where there has been little to no Gospel, and let them labor and work for a minimum of one year—and you pay for it.” the shock of God’s command almost deafened Robert Liardon. Mr. Liardon said, “Excuse me?” At that time, Robert Liardon hadn’t even graduated 500 students form the Bible College! And pay for it? Roberts Liardon thought God was testing him. The Lord repeated the same sentence to Robert Liardon. God said it again: “..and you pay for it.” Mr. Liardon voice was a little squeaky, but he still asked, “Are You serious?” Mr. Liardon reeled as his mind took total control and whirled in about fifty directions. It took three people to take care of his schedule—how would he take care of 500 people and their schedules? Some of the people in the school hadn’t even been to Canada or Mexico—how could I get them to go to the hard nations of the world! Shaking his head, Robert Liardon quizzed God again, “Are you sure, Lord?” He wouldn’t even answer him.
Robert Liardon had a quick vision in his heart of the overall plan - where he’d been, where he were, and where he were going. After Mr. Liardon saw that, he just threw his hand in the air and said, “Well Lord — if that’s what You want me to do - okay! I’ll do it!” When Roberts Liardon obeyed, God started talking to him again. Lord said, “as a sign to you that this is My perfect will for you and your church, in the next two months I am going to pay off all your ministry bills. And then I’ll begin to send money to you to help get the first ones out.” Roberts Liardon was thrilled. He knew the money he owed. And Mr. Liardon knew it was going to take God to get him out of debt. Aside form being in a building project in Southern California, Robert Liardon was also in a fight with the city over ridiculous permits— he needed money!
Money began to come to Roberts Liardon like water coming off a mountain! It was wild! The wildest story during those two months was when a lady in Florid handed Mr. Liardon a little pink bag with $130,000 dollars in it! Things like that began to happen to Roberts Liardon during that entire summer of 1998. It happened like that all summer long. Robert Liardon would just stand there, and people would come up to him and hand him checks. Money came flooding in from the right and from the left, people cashing out bonds, or selling their cars and sending him the money. Some of his partners sold land and sent the money to Roberts Liardon Ministry. It was absolutely wild!
The Lord had given Roberts Liardon an exact amount that He would give him as a sign that this was His will for us. The exact amount came in. And it kept coming in!
Roberts Liardon is also founder of Spirit Life Bible College.
Spirit Life Bible College was born during an intense time of prayer while Pastor Roberts Liardon was on a hill overlooking the old city of Jerusalem. It was one of the most memorable experiences of Roberts Liardon life. Roberts Liardon prayers focused on the calling forth of God's ministers to the nations. Pastor Roberts Liardon specifically prayed that their gifts and callings would progress and remain in great power to bring revival in this end time harvest.
"As he was catching a taxi back to his hotel, the Spirit of the Lord spoke to Roberts Liardon, "Go back and listen this time." Roberts Liardon turned around and went back -- what he heard astounded him. In the wind, many voices in different languages cried out, "We want to obey God and run the race that He has called us to, but who will show us how?" Those words still echo in Roberts Liardon spirit today. The cry of those words, and the command of God to teach and train the people to live in their high calling have produced SPIRIT LIFE BIBLE COLLEGE.
SLBC was founded by Roberts Liardon in 1992 for the purpose of raising up a whole new generation of reformers and revivalists. At SLBC, academic excellence is empowered by the life-changing impartation of the Holy Spirit. We train our students to build, establish, and live victoriously in any environment and spiritual climate of the world.
Roberts Liardon invite you to meet the challenge before you. Join the ranks of those who will reap the end-time harvest and present the nations as a treasure to God.
